Hi guys, this is the first of many episodes of my creating mobile game art in illustrator.
Here I show my workflows the really speed up the art creation process.

My process is pretty simple, and with proper understanding of values, lighting, shadows, highlights and composition, I am sure you will be a proficient vector artist too

Vectors are used on a WIDE i mean WIDE, variety of media, be it animations, games, presentations, prints and other media forms. And I think adobe illustrator is one of the most used tools for this, though I know some out there that are awesome also.

Some mobile games art only require simple shading (gradient are often used too).
In my time lapse, you will see that I only use 1 main color value for the base color, and just take advantage of the blending modes to create shading. I mainly use screen and multiply for this, but you can also try out the other blending modes.

I also take advantage of adobe illustrator's isolation mode, which can be enabled by double clicking on a shape or group. With this technique I can edit different elements of an illustration or game art without having to worry about selecting other art work that I don't need.
I can create my shadows, highlights and other tertiary details as I work inside a group or in isolation mode. I can then flip, scale , rotate any group after exiting isolation mode. And I am able to populate any game scene just by reusing this groups that I made. If i need to edit one element I would just double click it again. That's it plain and simple

One tool that I use 101% is the awesome shape builder tool, its just like the pathfinder panel, ALL ROLL INTO ONE. I can merge shapes, divide, extract by just using this tool. It really speeds up my workflow ten folds!

Also don't forget to create custom keyboard shortcuts that you feel will help you make faster game art or illustrations. The faster we are the more artwork we can create, and with no quality loss. We just do the same thing in the fastest way possible.

Here are my personal keyboard shortcuts. This shortcuts are what I use on a daily basis and have has let me create fast artwork.

Custom
Ctrl + R = Reflect *really handy when making symmetric shapes.
Ctrl + alt + O = offset path, one of the best tools for creating borders and trick shapes.
Shift +S = screen blending mode * one of my core shortcuts and tools.
Shift + D = Multiply blending mode * also one of my core shortcuts and tools.
Ctrl + E = Expand * flatten artwork, outlines or groups. this is aweee..someee.
Keyboard keys 1~10 = Opacity 10% -100 * I can easily set the opacity of art work with this keys.

Illustrator Shortcuts
Shift + M * do I need to explain this? check out the video on how I take advantage of this tool
ctrl + y *illustrator's handy tool to see all vector shapes in wireframe mode,  awesome in finding hidden elements that got lost in the void, err artboard.

I also try to add real world shadows and always keep a basic lighting setup in mind.
With this guide I can create more appealing artwork which has more realism (not realistic) to it.
I can add soft shadows, ambient occlussion shadows and other small details that make a mobile game artwork WORK

Of course you can use this workflows and tips on any kind of vector artwork you are doing. For portraits, logos, shirt designs, print, type and many more.
